The SPCA of Texas is thrilled to announce that it has received a generous grant in the amount of $15,000 from BISSELL Pet Foundation to fund a new spay/neuter surgery initiative for feral cats. This initiative will help control the growing number of free roaming cats in Southern Dallas and surrounding areas and help keep cats and kittens out of shelters.
In Dallas, there has been a very successful campaign to spay/neuter dogs in response to a major loose dog issue that was threatening public safety. Currently, there are only a limited number of North Texas organizations offering affordable spay/neuter surgeries for roaming cats. This has led to local shelters seeing a drastic increase in feral kittens being born and an increase in requests for help with feral kittens. With this grant the SPCA of Texas hopes to step up and take the lead in spaying and neutering the community cat population.
The ultimate goal for this program is to save the lives of feral, free-roaming cats and help control the feral cat population. Thanks to the BISSELL Pet Foundation grant, the SPCA of Texas will be able to provide spay/neuter surgeries, rabies shots and eartips for 600 feral cats.
