Teacher's Society Increases Membership

For 84 years The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International has invited key women educators to join their local chapter of professional women educators. The local Duncanville chapter, Kappa Upsilon, continues this tradition. This year's selected educators Monica Balderas, Jessica Drummond and Jessie Barron were added to the Kappa Upsilon membership. The formal initiation ceremony was held at the Golf Club of Dallas on November 7. The new members were sponsored by Kappa Upsilon members Jane Quintanar, LaTonya Battles, and Beverly Warren.

The local chapter of Kappa Upsilon is one of over 200 chapters in the state of Texas, chapters in every state of the United States, and over 900,000 members internationally, with chapters in 17 countries.

The society provides millions of dollars for the advancement of teacher ecucation and professional growth of women teachers.

All members are professional educators and must be invited to join the local organization. Delta Kappa Gamma benefits members through awarding numerous local, area, and state scholarships for masters' degress and professional development, seminars in leadership, professional journals, and networking opportunites.

Recently the chapter joined with the Duncanville Lion's Club and provided books for every new born at Charlton Methodist for one year. This year's project is to give a book tor every Kindergarten student in Duncanville to take home at the end of the year.

Each year the Kappa Upsilon chapter gives a scholarship to a high school girl planning to become an educator and many other service projects for the growth of teachers and excellence in education.
