DUNCANVILLE, TX – More than two dozen young women from DeSoto ISD middle schools attended STEM Adventures at the International Museum of Cultures’ Children’s Lab on Saturday, October, 15, 2016.  Each girl participated in two hands-on workshops for the three-hour program.

DESIGNING FLIGHT

Facilitator Candy Robinson, an engineer with Lockheed-Martin, demonstrated the inner workings of making an airplane in Designing Flight.  Students made paper planes to understand the aerodynamics of flight, then formed an assembly line to go through the manufacturing process of producing an airplane.

ELECTRONICS MAGIC

The young women discovered the power of circuitry in Electronics Magic with engineer Jaime Hunter.  Demonstrating with the wiring of a light switch, Jaime showed the girls how conductors and resistors work in the mechanics of electricity.

STEM Adventures is a program of the Southwest Dallas County American Association of University Women, designed to nurture interest for girls in grades 6, 7, and 8 in science, technology, engineering, and math.  The program will be offered again on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the International Museum of Cultures, 411 E.
