The North Texas Renewable Energy Group is pleased to announce the 10th Annual DFW Solar Tour; a free, one-day event taking place this year on Saturday, October 5, 2019, from 10 am to 4 pm. The general public is invited to visit select innovative homes and buildings throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex.

The DFW Solar Tour enables people to learn how their neighbors – homeowners and businesses alike – are using solar energy, wind energy, energy efficiency, and other sustainable technologies to save money and reduce consumption of natural resources. The strategies and techniques on display during this year’s tour range from things as simple and easy as changing to LED light bulbs and selecting more efficient appliances, to cutting-edge, ultra-efficient eco-homes and businesses that are generating as much or more energy than they consume!

The DFW Solar Tour is organized by the non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer-based North Texas Renewable Energy Group, Inc in cooperation with the Texas Solar Energy Society and the American Solar Energy Society National Solar Tour:

If anyone is looking for a ride to the polls for early voting (last day Fri 11/2) or on Election Day 11/6, or would like to volunteer to drive people needing rides, I recommend checking out the new group Rideshare2vote.

I did my first volunteer run as a driver using the Apple app, and it worked out great!

- call 888-977-2250 to get a ride if you prefer talking or for questions.

- to sign up as a driver start at https://rideshare2vote.net .

- Install Google (Android phone) or Apple apps for Riders and Drivers from respective stores.

Notes: When I registered with the app as a driver there were no options for vehicle type and make other than Luxury and BMW; just accept them and when you connect with a rider you can let them know what to expect. Also, there are “start ride” and “end trip” functions which help the system keep track of what’s going on. Unfortunately, since the apps are brand new there aren’t a lot of FAQ or guides available yet.

- Drivers: Before you can start accepting riders through the apps, someone will verify your information from the website registration.

- There is also a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Rideshare2Vote/

- They are also using Signup Genius for events needing multiple drivers.

If anyone needs a ride to the polls (early voting and Nov. 6), or would like to volunteer to drive, regardless of party affiliation, they might want to check out the new, non-partisan service at https://rideshare2vote.net .

People can search for rides being offered in their area on the website without having to sign in.  Android smartphone apps for riders and drivers are being debugged, and the Apple versions are pending release as soon as Wed. 10/24/18.

I would like to see more utilization of this in Southwest Dallas County, so I hope more people will hear about it and sign up both to ride and to drive.
